Insurance Fraud Investigations Reveal Blatant Untruths

When it comes to insurance fraud, the bad guys can be quite brazen. Take, for instance, a North Carolina couple who were arrested for insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense.

It is alleged that Mister filed a claim after an automobile accident with information about lost wages due to the accident. The couple is accused of inflating the amount of wages that were lost and, on top of that, the company he worked for did not even exist.

They went to a great deal of trouble to document wages and the company in order to file the claim.

Here at International Investigators we are never surprised or taken aback by the extremes that some people will go to in insurance fraud cases. We have uncovered [...]

Solid Investigation Prevents Scammers from Bullying Victims

When Paul and his attorney came into the International Investigators and shared his story, we were not exactly shocked. Like our staff, Paul is well aware of numerous scamming attempts made by criminals. Despite that knowledge, he found himself a victim.

It all began on a congested city street one snowy afternoon around rush hour. Paul was startled by a loud thunk sound. He wondered if kids made his vehicle their target with a snowball filled with rocks, or if perhaps that sound was explained by a chunk of ice melting and falling away from the undercarriage. But then he noticed a female driving an older model car honking and waving in his direction.

She motioned for him to roll his window down and insisted that [...]

Down to the Wire Fugitive Recovery Agents Look to International Investigators

At International Investigators, no two days are ever the same.

We work to solve employee embezzlement
We do our best to find missing people.
We undertake investigations for medical malpractice lawsuits and personal liability cases.
And we also work with fugitive recovery agents, or bail

Time is of the essence in many investigations, but always in fugitive recovery cases. If their client skips bail, then the bondsman loses all of that bail money unless the fugitive can be located and returned for court.

Obviously, bail recovery agents are always anxious for our help. They come to us as their last resort, so time is always in short supply.

We use an assortment of investigative tools to fit each individual case. But for bondsmen, investigation often requires a mix of digital forensics, [...]

Insurance Fraud Covers More Than a Falsified Slip and Fall Claim

Insurance Fraud Covers More Than a Falsified Slip and Fall Claim

We have all heard the horror stories about employees who scam the system and cost their employer lots of money by filing false claims and committing workers compensation fraud. But another very real issue involves dishonest business owners who scam coverage providers. And so, when insurance companies contact International Investigators about insurance fraud, we move swiftly to resolve the problems. Because, for every day that a dishonest business owner gets away with this crime, everyone else is at risk, whether we're talking about financial loss for the insurance carrier or benefit loss for innocent employees.

Crooked business owners illegally reduce the owed amounts of workman's compensation premiums by hiding behind fake companies. This practice can be difficult to discover since the business may even provide [...]

Is it Pain or is it Workers Compensation Fraud?

When their employee of less than six months claimed that her back was severely injured during a fall at work, Mary and Ted were alarmed. After all, their entire company was built on safety. In more than two decades of being in business, an employee had never been hurt on the job.

But soon after the woman claimed to be too injured to return to work, Mary and Ted began to smell a rat. They spoke to other employees about the incident. Unfortunately no one had seen the woman actually fall. There was no video to review since Mary and Ted had never seen cameras as a necessity in their place of business.

Shortly thereafter, the employee filed for workman’s compensation. Following that, Mary and Ted [...]

Private Investigators Prove Insurance Fraud with Surveillance Video

Private Investigators Prove Insurance Fraud with Surveillance Video

When Wanda fell on a wet floor at work, she claimed to have suffered multiple injury-related problems. She quickly filed for workers compensation and sued her employer for millions of dollars in damages. Because they had no access to a videotape of Wanda’s slip and fall accident, her employers had no way of proving that she was lying – and committing insurance fraud. They heard a few grumbles around the community from Wanda’s co-workers and a few of her neighbors too, stating that Wanda was not only pretending to be injured, she was bragging about how she had her previous employer pinned to the ground like a bug.

Frustrated and aggravated by the continuous stack of medical bills arriving in a thick manila envelope every [...]

Vehicle Accident Investigation Collects Facts for Decisions

When you think of an automobile insurance claim, you probably think of a police report and an insurance claim. You probably don’t think of reasons why a firm like International Investigators might be hired for a vehicle accident investigation, do you?

Here is an example of why attorneys (and their clients) call International Investigators:

There was an automobile accident and it was determined that the driver of one of the vehicles was responsible for causing the crash. That person died. That driver had injury insurance, but the injuries sustained by the person in the other car exceeded the coverage.

In this case, the injured driver wanted to file a lawsuit against the responsible driver to cover the remaining medical expenses. Their attorney contacted us to see if [...]

Computer Forensics Investigations Reveal Truths – Wanted or Not

Computer Forensics Investigations Reveal Truths – Wanted or Not

Computer forensics is not only used for criminal cases, but for civil cases as well. One illustrative case involved a worker who was placed on unpaid leave and then terminated. He filed a lawsuit against his employer alleging violations of the anti-retaliation provision of the False Claims Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as the laws of the state of the occurrence. He told his attorney that several supervisors had conspired against him and that there were emails he had seen to prove it.

The attorney obtained subpoenas for the computers of the supervisors and the terminated employee for computer forensics analysis. When the certified computer examiner began the process, he created a digital copy and found something unusual. The unallocated file [...]
