TSCM sweep

Are you Bugged?

At International Investigators we get at many inquiring calls inquiring about a TSCM (Technical Surveillance Counter Measures) sweep for listening devices.  TSCM sweeps have many informal names such as a bug sweep, electronic bug detection or counter surveillance services but whatever you chose to call the service it has one object in mind and that is to find any device with the capability to record audio and/or video of a target without their knowledge.  On these sweeps, we use some of the most sophisticated hardware available.  We have a hidden camera detector, listening device detection methods, RF video surveillance detection, as well as many other electronic bug sweep devices.

During a TSCM sweep we analyze local RF and attempt to isolate RF frequencies emitting from [...]

Not Only Do I Hear What You Are Saying, So Is Someone Else

We had a gentleman who was on the verge of selling his multi-million dollar company.  He had a qualified buyer who he had been working with for several months and he was excited about the prospect of walking away from the hustle and bustle of owning a company to the sandy shores of some tropical island.  In order to accomplish this, he would have to open his company finances to the buyer’s agent to verify his company was in fact viable.  The buyer now showed some hesitation and didn’t appear to be as excited as in previous meetings.  He had this feeling that something wasn’t right and he came to International Investigators to hash over his suspicions to determine if that nagging warning was [...]

Bug Sweeps Can Protect Your Confidential Information

Did you see the recent stories about the National Football League (NFL) conducting a bug sweep in the New York Jets’ locker room before their Week 7 game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium? It was the talk of all the sports media outlets for several days, given DeflateGate and other instances in which the Patriots have been accused of potential cheating.

Funny thing though the Jets said they didn’t make the request for the listening device sweep. But Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk says the electronic bug detection sweep did occur. Eventually, NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy responded by saying that the NFL has conducted regular, random sweeps of locker rooms for listening devices for years. However, the league does not provide [...]

Burglary and Trickery Foiled by TSCM

After years of providing investigative services, here at International Investigators, there are some things we understand. When someone’s home is burgled, the residents often lose the feeling of being safe and secure. But when someone’s homes is invaded twice in a very short time frame, that fear is mixed with confusion and uncertainty. Sandy* had moved out of her home after the second incident. She was afraid, and not quite sure why the burglary had been repeated.

In each instance, some possessions had been taken: a computer, some collectibles, and then some things like BlueRay movies, CDs and even a few books. It didn’t make sense to her and it sounded unusual to us, too.

Since there was a chance the home would be invaded again, [...]

4 Reasons Businesses Should Conduct Technical Surveillance Countermeasures

Sometimes business owners and leadership of businesses can’t believe that their business would be the target of any corporate espionage or illegal activity. But innovative small businesses have become not only a hotbed of technological advances, but the victim of crimes that devastate their enterprise.

For that reason, here at International Investigators, we want every business owner to be aware of the top 4 reasons to conduct Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM). TSCM is most commonly referred to as bug detection. But TSCM is also used to detect phone tapping devices, listening devices, electronic surveillance equipment and other sorts of spy equipment.

Knowing that TSCM is for spy detection, some business owners might immediately say they don’t need these services. But if any of these situations come [...]

Technology Advances: The Need to Sweep for Bugs Grows

At International Investigators, we understand that you need cold, hard facts.

No assumptions.
No guesses.
Just the facts.

We have the most advanced tools to get that job done. We still use basic skills of traditional investigations, such as surveillance. But we have access to very sophisticated surveillance equipment. To conduct research, we use highly advanced data bases.

And when we have access to computers and cell phones, we search for the truth through digital forensics.

In addition, we are experts at TSCM – Technical Surveillance Countermeasures.

So when you suspect that your office has been bugged, we are the professionals who can answer that question for you. As we have all seen in movies about espionage, wire tapping or a phone tap can be used as a terrible tool to [...]

Is It Theft if the Money is Used to Improve the Budget?

With many budget cuts in the last few years, not-for-profit agencies have felt the sting. The workers in these agencies believe in their missions so they avoid extra spending. For example, the chairs at the free clinic still haven't been replaced. At the shelter for victims of domestic violence, the roof has leaked for two years. And in many agencies, if a staff person leaves, that person is rarely replaced. Instead, the work load is dispersed among other employees.

And so, our investigators were surprised when the executive director of Vocational Rehabilitation stopped by. She had a keen eye and a careful watch on agency books and shared with us that she suspected a certain mental health agency was purposefully overcharging services rendered to Vocational [...]

Investigators Uncover That Supposed Failing Business Was Funding Thief

Investigators Uncover That Supposed Failing Business Was Funding Thief

Sadly, Ryan and Zach agreed that their venture was well on its way to that proverbial ditch, where far too many small businesses land, deep in the mud of financial ruin. No matter how he tried, Ryan couldn't pinpoint where they went wrong. He had been managing the expenses and cutting costs. He had an idea of the money coming in, too.

In the last year, Ryan had brought big clients which became huge money makers for the business. He expected to see relief. But Zach, who was in charge of all the bookkeeping, only shrugged and explained that Ryan's efforts were too late. Nothing could be done. According to Zach, he and his buddy were losing money every day the doors were open.

At his [...]

Investigators Prove Not Every Business Partnership is Made in Heaven

Investigators Prove Not Every Business Partnership is Made in Heaven

Joe enjoyed weight lifting and staying in good shape. So when Brian, a fraternity brother, approached Joe with a business opportunity, the chance to buy into a gym intrigued him. Brian had a degree in sports management and he pointed out that Joe's business degree, coupled with his interest in fitness, would be exactly what the gym needed. Although Joe’s business education suggested it, he didn’t feel the need to conduct due diligence because after all, Brian was a close friend.

After a year of partnership, Joe started to feel uneasy. Brian refused to invest in newer equipment and Joe worried that memberships would continue a downward trend. Occasionally, Brian was late or didn't show up at all. Joe worried that Brian's lack of commitment [...]

Suspicions Lead to Fruitful Bug Detection

We had a client who had taken on a special, highly confidential project at work. The reason he called was because he was concerned about inadvertently leaking information. He kept asking “Is my phone tapped?” He wasn’t paranoid, but suspicious.

What made him suspicious?

Electronic devices were acting “weird” and although he said he had an electric personality, these odd sounds and happenings had never happened before. He described some of them:
His AM/FM car radio had developed interference on several stations that had been previously clear. This could be the case of an eavesdropper since antennas can be exploited by eavesdroppers.
Sounds were coming from his office phone line when it was not in use.
Sometimes his office phone would ring and no one would be there or [...]
