What DO Private Investigators DO?

It’s not unusual for furious people to call or visit International Investigators. They aren’t furious with us, but with a situation and that is the reason they are contacting us. And sometimes with that fury comes an intent that we cannot service.

For instance, one man recently came in with a situation that had him in a blind rage. He was red in the face and yelling. He knew an employee was stealing from his supply house and he wanted this employee stopped. He wanted us to, “threaten him with his job and intimidate him into confessing publicly.”

We let him have his say and then we told him we would not, could not do as he requested. He stopped and told us he thought that [...]

Hurrying Through Hiring and Skipping Background Investigation Has Consequences

Hurrying Through Hiring and Skipping Background Investigation Has Consequences

Years ago, Bill learned his lesson, which is the fact that you just can't take anything at face value, especially people. Like all of those lessons that last a lifetime, Bill learned this information the hard way.

It happened when he hired two new employees for the city courts system. There had not been enough time to adequately complete the HR due diligence checklist including background investigations, as Bill and his staff would normally do with new hires. At the time, the offices for the heavily populated city were grossly understaffed. The employees were all stressed out and overworked. All anybody wanted, at that time, were a couple of warm bodies to sit in front of the telephones and computers.

As luck would have it, one [...]

Is it Stress or Is It Insurance Fraud?

By the time Hal met with International Investigators, he looked downright exhausted, not to mention angry. Nothing in life had been easy since the situation at his company had spun out of control.

By the way, “the situation” involved Hal's very successful real estate company and Gwen, his very difficult employee. Gwen was hired to be an administrative assistant after Hal explained that the role could be busy and stressful. Gwen had assured her new employer that she could very confidently complete all of the tasks. Hal was so impressed with Gwen that he did not follow through with the routine background investigation.

Five months after Gwen's probationary period ended, she began to frequently call in sick. Her absences gradually increased to once or even twice [...]

And so, when insurance companies contact International Investigators about insurance fraud, we move swiftly to resolve the problems. Because, for every day that a dishonest business owner gets away with this crime, everyone else is at risk, whether we're talking about financial loss for the insurance carrier or benefit loss for innocent employees.

Crooked business owners illegally reduce the owed amounts of workman's compensation premiums by hiding behind fake companies. This practice can be difficult to discover since the business may even provide [...]

Caustic Employees May Be as Harmful as Theft in the Workplace

Caustic Employees May Be as Harmful as Theft in the Workplace

Ed and Georgia were extremely conservative business owners. Last year, they realized a long time dream. They expanded the square footage of their business, took on a couple of new projects and hired four new employees.

But for some unknown reason, employee morale noticeably began to dwindle. Employees more frequently called in sick. Some actually left the company without providing clear reasons for why they were suddenly unhappy.

On their own, Ed and Georgia tried to interview workers about the shift in attitude. But they were unsuccessful in getting to the root of the problem.

Then in the community, Georgia heard a couple of negative rumors about their business. By that point, Ed and Georgia were more than concerned about the problem. They were panicked. Their employees [...]

Is it Pain or is it Workers Compensation Fraud?

When their employee of less than six months claimed that her back was severely injured during a fall at work, Mary and Ted were alarmed. After all, their entire company was built on safety. In more than two decades of being in business, an employee had never been hurt on the job.

But soon after the woman claimed to be too injured to return to work, Mary and Ted began to smell a rat. They spoke to other employees about the incident. Unfortunately no one had seen the woman actually fall. There was no video to review since Mary and Ted had never seen cameras as a necessity in their place of business.

Shortly thereafter, the employee filed for workman’s compensation. Following that, Mary and Ted [...]

When Your Quest is Truth; Hire a Private Investigator

Law officers and ambulance drivers, emergency room doctors and defense attorneys often boast that they see the weirdest of the weird. But sometimes the weird stories can be added to the discussion by adjustors for insurance companies.

One particular story involves an adjustor in Colorado and her claimant, who insisted that her vehicle had dropped into a vertical mine shift. Knowing that the police department had no time to search endless acres of rocky terrain in the area of Baily, Colorado, the adjustor called on a private investigator. She asked the private investigator to do everything they could to locate the missing vehicle and solve the fishy-sounding story. After many long hours and long days of searching the rough terrain in off-road vehicles, the investigators [...]
