Why Have Your Cell Phone Data Forensically Extracted?

There are many reasons an individual, attorney or a company would request an extraction from a device. An accusation of cheating on your spouse or even worse you suspect your spouse of being unfaithful can likely be addressed by analyzing cellular user data. More than likely there is sufficient evidence on of your cellular devices to either give credibility for or against the accusation. Now, what if the smoking gun was a GPS location saved in a temporary folder destined to soon be deleted? Or what if the text messages between a cheating spouse and their fling have been deleted? Our digital forensics software easily carves out deleted data and GPS location data from phones, but not all phones keep deleted user data the same [...]

Divorces can be nasty; Divorce Attorneys can be nastier and with good cause. In some cases, the respondent in a divorce proceeding didn’t even see a problem in the marriage, they thought they were happily married and were taken by surprise when they received the legal documents. Then there are situations when the divorce was long overdue but the thought of the fight was just too much to handle. Infidelity divorces are painful and are usually denied by the partner involved in a relationship outside of the boundaries of marriage. When there isn’t actual proof, just an intuition and you need to know the truth to decide to either end the marriage or forgive. And in some divorces, one partner is far savvier than the [...]

Scam or Reality?

A man walked into my office and sat down at my desk to share his love story.  He had met a wonderful woman online from another country.  They had been communicating for over a year and he was contemplating traveling over 4,000 miles to meet her in person.  He wasn’t a rich man, he didn’t own a house, apartment living was good enough for him and his cat, he didn’t drive a fancy car or wear expensive clothes, but yet, to her he offered more than she could ever obtain on her own.  She wrote beautiful emails, quirky texts, and they had an account set up that allowed them to talk on the phone for pennies a minute and they talked every day at 6 [...]

Allegations and Accusations

Some of our inquires become cases due to accusations or allegations in the workplace, during a divorce or custody battle, amongst friends or within a marriage.  Words are powerful.  They can be uplifting or they can degrade and when someone has been falsely accused of an action or a rumor has been spread that holds little to no truth it is very difficult to prove otherwise.   Then there are the cases of he said/she said and that too is hard to disprove or prove.  If the Client needs to know the truth about a situation a Polygraph Test or a Voice Stress Analysis are two ways to learn the facts.  Polygraphs measure heart rate, respiration, galvanic skin response, blood pressure and other changes in the [...]

Survival: The definition of survival is different to all of us. The words below represent how an outsider in a situation witnesses how others are just trying to survive.

At the end of September, we took a trip, which had been planned for almost a year, to South Carolina. We were apprehensive due to Hurricane Florence of what would we find when we arrived. We first contacted the rental company who informed us the area was in good condition and the house we rented on the beach was untouched by the storm, the aftermath of the storm and the storm surges that had ravished a lot of areas in the southern part of North Carolina, close to where we were traveling. On our way, we stopped to visit family in Durham and traveling to that location was uneventful, the normal scenery we had viewed for the last ten years of vacationing in South Carolina. [...]

Background Checks: Are those Online Services as Reliable?

There are many websites that claim they can find anyone, obtain dates of births, social security numbers, address, relatives, employment, associates, civil and criminal histories. Many of those sites advertise as being free, just insert a bit of information and the results will be immediate. We have tested many sites with results that are far from accurate and the results are not free. When we obtained a report on an individual on one site their data inputting process repeatedly stated the information contained is graphic and embarrassing and contains sensitive information and the person being search could be on the FBI watch list. Then they ask that you click a tab that states the information obtained should not be used in an illegal manner. This [...]

Ostriches Don’t Get a Fair Deal in a Divorce

For those of us who have been divorced, we understand the process and procedures.  We know that we either represent ourselves (which could create problems during and after the divorce) or we retain the services of a reputable law firm (which prevents the pro-se issues).  We enter into a marriage full of hope and dreams and unfortunately, we are only in control of half of that relationship.  We enter into a divorce with the expectation to right the wrongs and in many cases, there are activities that need to be investigated.  The he/said she/said of the relationship holds little weight in court.  Documented behavior and actions are required.  Not all divorces are complicated, but in relationships that end due to deceit, hiring an investigative company [...]

How to Find a Witness, Heir, Client, Family Member, Friend or Lost Love

There are basically two types of locates behind the various reasons to request them: 1) An attorney who needs to find a witness for a case, an heir to an estate or their own Client.  How does an Attorney lose contact with a Client?  Civil and Criminal cases can take months or even years for a court date and it is the responsibility of the Attorney’s Client to provide current contact information.  If that doesn’t happen and a court date is set the Attorney needs his Client to be notified and with outdated information, that isn’t possible. 2) Personal locates to search for a family member, friend or a lost love.  Lost loves are the most difficult locates, especially when the person being searched is [...]

Pete and Repeat Hired the Wrong Employee

We have Clients who have shared their experiences in hiring employees for their company.  The first line is “You wouldn’t believe what this employee did?  We had no idea they were remotely engaged in that activity.  They interviewed so well”. Although we hate to hear this, we are very familiar with a hiring practice that does not include background research.  With an unemployment rate as of July 2018 at 3.9% employers are finding it difficult to fill positions.  And as a small business owner with less than 50 employees, health insurance to the employee is not a requirement, which makes the hiring process even more difficult for an employer. As a result of just those two factors, employers tend to overlook one of the most [...]

Asset and Financial Investigations for Law Firms

Asset and Financial Investigations are conducted for the purpose of determining if an individual or a Corporation/Company/Business are hiding assets (property or money).  Asset Investigations are requested when there is Civil Litigation and or Criminal Proceeding in progress for Divorce, Embezzlement or Judgment.  The search is conducted on an individual or a company.  The search criteria are specific by Name, Date of Birth, Social Security Number for an individual and Company Name and EIN for a Corporation, Organization or Business, or if the business owner’s social security number is linked to the financial institution.  The searches can be conducted State by State or Nationwide.  An attorney will often request this search to determine if the Defendant/Respondent is hiding assets or has assets they can attach [...]
